Adam Adrian Crown, Maitre d'Armes

Adam Adrian Crown received his fencing master diploma in 1980 under the tutelage of Maître Jean-Jacques Gillet, then-head fencing coach at Cornell University.   He is a fifth degree black belt in karate and has studied a variety of martial disciplines including iaido, aikido, ju jitsu and boxing.  Maître Crown has a bachelors degree in cinema studies and a masters degree in organizational communication, both from Ithaca College. Once a volunteer firefighter, he is also a certified Fire & Life Safety Educator.

The Master has a passionate love of horses, and is an out-spoken advocate of non-coercive, "renegade" horsemanship.  He is a musician, author and composer and enjoys all kinds of music, particularly classical, jazz, blues and flamenco.

Maître Crown is the creator of the IFV Classical Fencing Method, and author of "Classical Fencing: The Martial Art of Incurable Romantics."  He teaches rapier, rapier and dagger, longsword, sabre (mounted and dismounted), boxing fundamentals, and basic self-defense awareness for women.

An aspiring novelist, she is currently studying in Spain, land of fine swords, magnificent horses, and great music. She also enjoys boxing and swing dance. Her favorite weapon is the sabre.

Collin Clary has studied with us since he was eight years old, one of the few students who have made such a strong commitment at such a young age. He also leads warm-ups and footwork and assists with demonstrations of skills in class. In addition to assisting in the intro class, Collin has a strong interest in entomology, with his own collection of various critters including scorpions.
